An Artist’s Secret Tool? The Rubber Bridge

Inspired by historic muting techniques and modified bridge designs of respected luthiers, we've put our unique spin on the dreamy rubber bridge tone. Using our parlor as the base, we tested a number of rubber-lined saddle designs to find the right thickness and adjustability. We then upgraded the bridge construction with additional reinforcement and added in a trapeze tailpiece. The result? A muted yet articulate sound.

Plug In and Explore

Juniper sounds great unplugged, but you should hear it through your favorite amp and pedals. The high-output rail humbucker projects the perfect punch to balance out all that mellowness, and a simple cupcake-style knob adds volume control.

F’in Awesome!

This is my second Orangewood guitar (Ava Mahogany) and latest addition to my collection. The Juniper Black Live is unique, beautiful and well crafted. The rubber bridge sound is the “new” old sound and I’d considered making one myself until Orangewood announced this beauty. It’s absolutely perfect. It’s not for everyone probably, and not for someone looking for their one and only acoustic, but if you love blues and folk music you’ll dig it. I love playing slide with it! I just need a better amp to get the full experience out of this dual rail pickup. Its brilliant! I’ve played it a bit on recordings through a processor and it sounds so cool with a little “trash” on it. I love this guitar. It also coincidentally shares the name of my dog who is also black and white. I highly recommend this guitar for anyone who is considering it.

Thank you for your review and for your continued support! We hope you and Juniper enjoy your Juniper Rubber Bridge Guitar!

Orangewood, Most Often the Choice

I have managed to accumulate over a dozen guitars over the years, including a few custom built acoustics from big name brands. But, on a daily basis I find myself most often picking up the Orangewood Sage, and now the Rubber Bridge Parlor guitar I just purchased. So much fun to play. It adds a whole new feel of expression. And, wait till you plug it in…… WOW !

Exactly what you would expect, except for...

The guitar is exactly what I expected being made over seas and sold at an affordable price.

First, the cons:
I expected to have to do some setup of the instrument given its origin and the price point. However, the strings were covered in a weird grime when it arrived that makes me think it wasn't touched by anyone here in the US as is claimed. It showed up with a TON of fret sprout. I had to go at almost ALL of the fret end razor blades before it was playable. The nut was cut poorly; lots of binding (pinging noises) in there while trying to tune.

Now the pros:
Once you take care of the fret ends (and polish), new strings, recut the nut, and maybe replace the tuners (I have not done so yet - they feel just ok but there might be some string/gear slipping), it plays decently and has the tone I wanted. The pickup is just ok as well, might replace that eventually if I find I use it.

Overall worth it if you can do the things I had to do and not have to pay someone else to do it, but the price could come down a bit given the amount of work this one needed. Hopefully they don't all need this much work.

Good luck!
