I purchased this guitar because I needed a smaller and cheaper option for the times when I am asked to lead worship in places where taking my full-size Taylor is difficult. I have been blown away by the sound! Whether I am just relaxing on the couch or leading worship in a random park here in the DR, this guitar never disappoints. I am very, very pleased with this purchase.
My favorite guitar had been my GS Mini Koa Plus and it still gets played but my go to has become the Oliver Jr Live. They are basically the same comfortable size but the Oliver seems to have a slightly narrower neck (subjectively measured by the ease of wrapping my thumb around the neck) and fits me a little better. When plugged in the two are competitive in sound for fingerpicking, the GS is better for strumming. After you play the Oliver it's hard to believe the price tag on it. They are such a bargain I just received my 2nd Oliver a few days ago and it will stay tuned to DADGAD and DADFAD. These Oliver's fit me like a glove. I'm playing more because they are hard to walk past without picking them up.
Has a good action and sounds good.
Fits him very well and he was extremely happy to see it was a real guitar not a kiddy guitar
I’m hoping it lasts for the two kids coming behind him as well.
Not a great sound, but stays in tune and might sound better with better strings. Seems like it was made by a machine
As I said in a previous post the Oliver Jr comes with Ernie Ball Earthwood Medium Lights at 172 ft lbs of tension.
I replaced those with 125 ft lbs Thomastik AC111. Outstanding....
This little guitar is so freaking playable its hard to put down.
The size has always been just right for me and now the AC111's make it even easier to fingerpick.
The AC111's last a long time (they should for the price) and when they wear out I'm going to try tuning it to Nashville.
Or I just might get another Oliver Jr and leave it in Nashville. The price certainly has ne thinking that way.
I play this guitar alot - more than several other guitars many times more expensive. Great guitar.
